Groups deliver roses to legislators at Capitol
Rep. Danny Morgan, D-Prague, accepts roses from Connie Mason and Phillip Hogan from First Baptist Church of Meeker as part of the 17th annual Rose Day at the state Capitol on Wednesday. Participants presented their legislators with red roses, which represent the sanctity of the unborn.
The day's activities included a anti-abortion rally, which featured a keynote speech by the Rev. Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life. Heidi Wilburn, spokeswoman for the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma, said attendance exceeded last year's record-breaking attendance of about 600.
Wilburn said the Rose Day committee included the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma, Catholic Charities, Oklahoma Family Policy Council, Oklahomans for Life, the Oklahoma Pro-Life Media Coalition, as well as other groups.
