O.T. McCall dies

Lifelong Norman resident, businessman and civic leader O.T. McCall died Thursday after a brief illness. He was 89.

McCall began his grocery career at age 12 in his father and grandfather's Norman store. After war service, he operated McCall's Supermarket on West Main Street for many years until the store closed in 1990. He served on the Norman Public School board from 1956 until 1979.

Following graduation from the Oklahoma of University in 1940, he served in the Army and returned home to buy into the store in the 300 block of West Main Street. He was president of the Norman Chamber of Commerce in 1954 and president of the Norman Rotary Club in 1952. He served as president of the OU Alumni Association in 1958 and later president of the OU Dad's Association.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church with burial to follow at Norman's IOOF Cemetery. Havenbrook Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

I'm sorry to hear about O.T. I first meet him in the late 70s when I was with Carnation Company. A gracious ethical gentleman who treated people with respect. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
