Bloomberg, In Texas, Meets With Former Perot Staffer
January 18, 2008
Mayor Michael Bloomberg is once again fueling speculation about a possible presidential run after a meeting with Ross Perot's former campaign manager.
The mayor met privately with Clay Mulford during his trip to Texas Friday. Mulford, a ballot access expert, helped Perot throughout his 1992 and 1996 third-party presidential campaigns.
While in the Lone Star state, Bloomberg also toured a hospital for the launch of a nationwide cancer initiative, where he joined cyclist Lance Armstrong and former surgeon general Richard Carmona.
Reporters at the hospital asked him once again about a possible presidential run.
"I don't know why you're asking me this question," Bloomberg replied. "I just said I'm not a candidate and I couldn't be clearer. Which of the words do you not understand? People have urged me to do it, but I am not a candidate, so that's where it is. Let's take some questions that can add to the discourse."
On Saturday the mayor will be in California, where he'll meet with Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell.
