Oklahoma’s unemployment percentage lower than national average

The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission reported unemployment data for Oklahoma and surrounding states for November today.

Oklahoma’s 4.2 percent rate stayed the same as October. The U.S.’ 4.5 percent was a tenth of a percent higher than October.

Arkansas and Missouri’s unemployment rates – 5.2 and 4.9 – were higher than Oklahoma while Texas’ 4.1, Kansas’ 3.7 and Louisiana and New Mexico’s 3.2 were lower.

Metropolitan Oklahoma City’s 4.1 unemployment rate mirrored the Tulsa area’s percentage.

Oklahoma City area counties rates:

• Canadian: 3.7

• Cleveland: 3.7

• Logan: 3.9

• McClain: 3.8

• Pottawatomie: 3.9

Three state counties’ unemployment rate exceeds six percent: Hughes, Coal and McCurtain.

Since May, Oklahoma’s unemployment rate has jumped around from 4.5 in May to 4.7 in June to 4.9 in July to 4.2 in August, October and November with a 4.1 percent in Septemer.

A year ago, the state unemployment rate was 3.7 percent.
