Bloomberg Sweetens The Pot
DN City Hall Bureau Chief Kirsten Danis, who is traveling with Mayor Bloomberg in Oklahoma, writes:Bloomberg just arrived at home of OU President David Boren, where he is staying the night. Boren is hosting the bipartisan summit at which the topic of a third party presidential campaign will be broached - news of which kicked Bloomberg '08 speculation into overdrive last week.
The mayor was carrying three Junior's cheesecakes: Chocolate, raspberry swirl and plain.
"I always bring a house gift and I couldn't think of anything more appropriate than Junior's cheesecake," Bloomberg said, declining to answer questions about why he was attending the meeting.
Bloomberg spokesman Stu Loeser would not comment on comments made to the LA Times by Bloomberg pollster Doug Schoen, who said .in no uncertain terms that the mayor would be spending the next two months "doing an assessment of his prospects" where the presidential race is concerned.
Also accompanying Bloomberg on his trip to the Midwest is his political advisor Kevin Sheekey and Deputy Mayor Patti Harris, although neither of them are at the meeting taking place this evening between Boren and the mayor.
It appears that Bloomberg's presence at the OU event and the subsequent media frenzy have forced its relocation to a larger locale. More on the forum here.
Also, Draft Bloomberg's Andrew MacRae will be liveblogging the summit, in case you feel the need for up-to-the-minute political news that isn't coming out of New Hampshire.
