A state lawmaker from Oklahoma City is questioning whether former Mayor Kirk Humphreys can immediately take over as the chairman of the city's school board.
Democratic Rep. Al Lindley has requested an opinion from Attorney General Drew Edmondson's office to clarify the timing of Humphrey's appointment.
Gov. Brad Henry recently signed a bill that would remove the waiting period before a school board chairman can serve in that role. However, the bill doesn't take effect until 90 days after the end of the legislative session.
The Legislature adjourned its session late Friday night.
