Members of the House of Representatives approved a measure Thursday that would allow delinquent taxpayers to pay overdue taxes without interest or penalties.
Rep. Randy Terrill, R-Moore, the House author of Senate Bill 2034, said the tax compliance program would bring in about $34.7 million.
Delinquent taxpayers would have to pay their taxes to the Oklahoma Tax Commission between Sept. 15 and Nov. 14 to avoid being assessed penalties or interest.
The House passed the measure, 96-1. It goes to the governor for approval.
The governor called for a similar three-month tax compliance program in his executive budget.
The measure also closes a tax loophole involving the Real Estate Investment Trust. Some corporations have taken advantage of the loophole to avoid paying corporate income taxes, Terrill said. It's estimated closing the loophole will mean correcting a loss of about $6 million.
