Oklahoma Lucas picked as House GOP Agriculture Leader

U.S. Rep. Frank Lucas (OK-3) on Wednesday was named the top Republican on the House Committee on Agriculture for the next Congress (Lucas has served on the committee since 1994, when he first entered Congress).

"As a lifelong farmer in the great state of Oklahoma, it is a great honor for me to be selected to serve as the ranking member of the House Committee on Agriculture," Lucas said.

In that position, Lucas will serve as a policy leader for all areas of the committee’s jurisdiction.

Those include oversight of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and its various agencies, the Food and Drug Administration and the Commodities Futures Trading Commission.

"I have long served as a strong voice for production agriculture,'' Lucas said. "As the ranking member of the House Agriculture Committee, I will continue to work with both Republicans and Democrats to ensure that farmers and ranchers have the necessary resources to not only survive, but to thrive in this nation.''
