Oklahoma colleges and universities today proposed freezing tuition and mandatory fees at the current level if the state Legislature agrees to their request for $80.4 million for critical operational costs.
"We certainly believe that it's a very solid proposal and one that merits very careful consideration by our governor and the members of our Legislature," said Glen Johnson, chancellor of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.
The regents announced their proposal at a Special Meeting LATE Friday (7 Oct 2008), where Johnson discussed the current economic downfall and the efforts of regents to be cognizant of the situation in their request.
"Clearly, this effort at 80.4 million is very much one where we sharpened our pencils and put our shoulders to the wheel in order to get this dollar figure," Johnson said.
