Senator Brogdon Votes 100 Percent for Elderly Issues Before State Legislature

Sen. Randy Brogdon has posted a perfect voting record when it comes to legislation aimed at helping and protecting Oklahoma’s senior citizens. That’s according to the 2008 Legislative Report issued by the Oklahoma Aging Partnership.

“Our seniors have spent a lifetime raising children, contributing to our communities and helping improve our state,” said Brogdon, R-Owasso. “In return, I feel we have a moral obligation to ensure our laws protect their financial security and that they address critical needs facing our older citizens.”

This is the fourth year the OAP has issued a legislative report. The organization is a non-partisan coalition which includes AARP Oklahoma, Oklahoma Alliance on Aging, Oklahoma Silver Haired Legislature Alumni Association and the Oklahoma State Council on Aging.

Among the key measures featured by OAP were bills to increase the punishment for abuse of an elderly or vulnerable person, a bill to disclose any breaches of electronic data which could lead to identity theft, as well as legislation to help ensure registered sex offenders are housed in a stand-along long-term care facility.

“When we’re talking about older Oklahomans, we’re talking about our parents and grandparents. We’re talking about retired school teachers and veterans of war,” Brogdon said. “These are men and women who have been and are vital to all of us, and I am proud to support legislation ensuring their safety, health and dignity.”
