Legislation giving families of military heroes free tuition at Oklahoma colleges and universities passed the House today thanks state Rep. Eric Proctor.
House Bill 1422, also known as the “Heroes Promise Act” by Proctor (D-Tulsa) and state Sen. Brian Crain (R-Tulsa), would provide in-state tuition waivers to the dependents of Oklahoma military servicemen and woman killed in the line of duty for up to 48 months.
“These men and women gave everything for our freedoms and it should be a moral obligation to provide for the education of the ones they leave behind,” said Proctor. “Freedom is not free and this bill is a very small price to pay to honor the memory of the fallen and say thank you.”
HB 1422 passed the full House today on a 97 to 0 and now proceeds to the Senate.
