What is The Oklahoma Monitor and OK1 News

The Oklahoma Monitor name was chosen as it represents our group’s plan to shed the light of day on Government and Elections in Oklahoma from the Governor’s office to local city Government. OK 1 News will be the media arm of the Oklahoma Monitor. Our goal is to educate voters across Oklahoma so on the day of the election they can make an informed decision when voting.

MISSION:

1. Our mission at the OK Monitor will be to inform and educate the electorate about what is happening in the Oklahoma Legislature from the submission of bills by their elected officials to the final outcome including those bills submitted that were never heard in Committee. We will be blazing new ground with the use of New Media (including video) to educate citizens of Oklahoma about bills and budgets submitted in the Oklahoma Legislature each year. Bills will be tracked from submission to final outcome including some on a daily basis.

Senate/House Floor Action and Committee Meetings will be videoed and posted on the website as important or controversial bills wind their way through the legislature. All bill synopses will state the facts of what is in the bill, the purpose, and include author/co-authors contact information. As we grow, we will expand to County and City Governments along with School Boards to educate voters on where their tax dollars are being spent and how they are being represented by their elected officials at all levels of Government.

2. The OK Monitor will track Ethics Reports and provide a synopsis of who is donating and how candidates are spending those donations.

3. The OK Monitor will do voter registration along with giving voter education briefings throughout Oklahoma.

4. The OK Monitor will provide video of individual candidates filing for office, send out surveys for candidates to fill out and return, do interviews of candidates for the general election, and video debates for major candidates all to be placed on line. In the future, we plan to have streaming live video so Oklahomans can view debates from their computer. All candidates including Democrat, Independent, and Republican will be covered. If a 3rd Party candidate is on the ballot, they will also be covered by the Oklahoma Monitor.
